Best interceptor waste in Essex
An interceptor waste is an underground chamber that mainly collects surface water, silt, grit, soil, and traces of oil, diesel, and other hydrocarbons that may leak from the surface. Interceptors or separators are designed to act as storage vessels to allow hydrocarbons to separate from the water and allow the water to discharge to the approved outfall under gravity.
There are mainly two types of interceptors. They are known as bypass interceptors and full retention interceptors. Let’s catch them!
· Bypass interceptors:
The bypass interceptor can only be used for low-risk sites where there is almost no risk of any spillages or erratic flows, such a site could be a car park or a hard-standing.
· Full retention interceptors.
The full retention interceptor is used for high-risk sites where spillages can occur, such as petrol stations.
Types of interceptor waste we can dispose of:
Garage Forecourts
Fuel spillages

The Types of methods that can be used to for interceptor waste:
Primary Treatment:
In this treatment, most of the settleable solids are separated or removed from the wastewater by the physical process of sedimentation which separates the large
solid from the water. The primary treatment removes about 60 percent of total suspended solids and about 35 percent of BOD. The major purpose of using primary treatment is to reduce or cut down the velocity of the wastewater to permit solids to settle and floatable material to surface.
Secondary Treatment: This is done after the primary treatment. Here the water-soluble impurities such as food waste, and convert them into carbon dioxide, water, and energy for growth and reproduction. It can be easily compared to the zone of recovery in self-purification. The devices used in secondary treatment can be divided into four groups likewise:
1. Trickling filters with secondary settling tanks
2. Activated sludge and modifications with final settling tanks
3. Intermittent sand filters
4. Stabilization ponds
In the last stage, Chlorination is done to purify the water.
Sludge Treatment:
The interceptor waste is almost removed from water in the previous stage, the remaining is called- Sludge. This is the last stage where water is treated. It is generally recommended to subject sludge to add some treatment to prepare or condition it for ultimate disposal. Such treatment has majorly two objectives:
1. The removal of part or all of the water in the sludge to reduce its volume,
2. The decomposition of the putrescible organic solids to mineral solids or relatively stable organic solids.
